Salesforce is worth $133 billion. Keep that number in mind the next time a consultant tells you the platform "just needs a few more tweaks" to fit your business.
A recent stock comparison put Salesforce's market cap at roughly 44 times that of Agilysys, a niche hospitality tech player. The gap isn't surprising. What it does illustrate is how much money flows into platforms built for everyone — which, in practice, means built for no one in particular.
That market cap doesn't buy you flexibility. It buys you roadmap committees, enterprise sales cycles, and a pricing structure that assumes you have a dedicated admin team. The bigger these platforms get, the less incentive they have to bend toward how your business actually works. You're adapting to them, not the other way around.
If you've already been through the Salesforce implementation gauntlet — the consultants, the customizations that broke on the next update, the team that never fully adopted it — you already know this isn't a scale problem. A $133 billion company still can't give you a workflow change by Friday.
The size of the vendor has never been the right measure of fit.
