The latest wave is "AI-powered sales" — the idea that your CRM shouldn't just store customer data, it should predict what to do with it. Enterprise tech leaders are publicly declaring that CRM is no longer a system of record. It's supposed to be a system of action.
That sounds good on a slide. In practice, it means vendors are layering AI features on top of the same rigid architecture that already doesn't fit how your team works. More capability you didn't ask for, sitting on top of a foundation you can't customize without calling someone who bills by the hour.
If your CRM still can't reflect your actual sales stages, your actual customer segments, or the way your team genuinely hands off accounts — AI summaries aren't going to fix that. They'll just summarize the wrong data faster.
You've already been through at least one platform that promised transformation and delivered a six-month distraction. The question worth asking before the next wave of AI noise lands in your inbox: does your current CRM actually know how your business works, or does your team just know how to work around it?
Buying smarter AI on top of a bad fit is still a bad fit.
