HubSpot's default lead scoring is essentially a point system you built on assumptions you made two years ago — and it's been quietly misfiring ever since.
There's been some noise lately about layering AI enrichment and scoring on top of HubSpot to make lead prioritization actually reflect buying signals, not just form fills and email opens. The idea is that AI pulls in behavioral and firmographic data your reps aren't manually tracking, then scores leads based on patterns that actually predict conversion — not the arbitrary weights you set up during implementation and forgot about.
If you're running a mid-market sales and marketing operation, this matters because your reps are probably working the wrong list. Not because they're lazy — because the scoring model feeding them that list was a guess when you built it and hasn't learned anything since. Deals slip, follow-up timing is off, and your boss asks why pipeline is lumpy while your team blames the leads.
AI-assisted scoring won't fix a broken CRM foundation, and it won't save you if your data hygiene is a disaster — but if your underlying contact data is reasonably clean, it's one of the few places where "add AI" is actually a concrete improvement rather than a buzzword.
The tools are getting smarter, but you still have to decide what a good lead actually looks like for your business before any model can learn it.
