Microsoft just wired Copilot AI directly into its sales and service CRM workflows. New tools handle things like summarizing customer interactions, drafting follow-ups, and flagging service issues — all inside the Microsoft ecosystem.

That sounds useful until you remember how this usually goes.

The feature ships. The demo looks clean. Then you spend three months figuring out why it only works the way Microsoft designed the workflow, not the way your team actually runs deals or handles customer issues. The AI is answering questions your process never asked.

This isn't a knock on Microsoft specifically. Every major vendor is bolting AI onto the same rigid architecture that already frustrated you. The underlying problem — a CRM built for a generic company, not yours — doesn't go away because there's a chatbot on top of it.

If your pipeline stages don't match how you actually sell, an AI summarizing activity in those stages just gives you faster access to the wrong data. Speed without fit is still broken.

The operators getting real value from AI in their CRM right now are the ones who fixed the foundation first — their data is clean, their workflows reflect reality, and the AI has something accurate to work with.

A smarter assistant on a broken process is just a more articulate way to stay stuck.
