Seeking Alpha published a round of analyst upgrades and downgrades this week. Salesforce ($CRM) got a bump — analysts pointing to AI pivots and earnings momentum as reasons to feel good about the company's direction.
That's fine if you're holding shares. Less useful if you're the person who has to explain to your VP why the pipeline report still doesn't match what sales says is actually closing.
Here's what those analyst notes don't cover: pricing pressure on enterprise software is real, and vendors under that pressure tend to monetize their existing customer base harder — through add-on fees, AI feature tiers, and "premium" customizations that used to be standard. You've probably already felt that. The thing you needed six months ago is now behind another contract conversation.
If you've been burned before — bad implementation, consultant invoices that outlasted the project, a migration that cost you three good months — you already know the stock price has nothing to do with whether the software actually fits how your team works.
Analyst upgrades move share prices. They don't fix the workflow your team built around the thing that was supposed to fix the workflow.
